Digital Harinezumi Camera - Fake Super 8 camera in NYC and a Miami

A photographer friend of mine Aylin Marcello asked me about a camera I used to film a wedding about a year ago. It was at the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens Besides filming the wedding with my usual High Definition Cameras I piggie backed my Japenese Harinezumi camera on top of my Sony EX1 HD camera. It was a remarkable experience and it gave a great Fake Super 8 look. I also filmed my visit home to NYC. Check it out and see if you like it. I just ordered a newer model and can't wait when I start using it again.

Jin and Mike's Destination Wedding Highlights

On November 20, 2010 I filmed a beautiful wedding for Jin and Mike. Jin who is from China and Mike who is from South Africa were a remarkable couple to work with and had a beautiful wedding at Bahia Mar Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale I worked with Tom Davis from Studio 280 who was an amazing photographer and who was really great and comfortable to work with. What was great that Jin and Mike went to China on Christmas and screened their Wedding movie I made them for Jin's family in China. And their online wedding was viewed by family and friends throughout the U.S., China, and South Africa.

The first question he asked if I ever filmed a same sex wedding and I replied that I filmed a same sex male wedding a few years ago in Atlantic City and it was awesome. Well Lori and Denise's wedding was my first same sex female wedding and it was beautiful. Their wedding and reception took place at Rutgers Gardens in New Brunswick, NJ. What made this wedding really special was that Lori was wearing her Mom's wedding gown from her wedding and I filmed the story behind her wedding gown. Reverend Richard Cash was the officiate and entertainment was by Premiere entertainment.

Just finished editing Adriana and Sam's Wedding from March 14, 2010. I really enjoyed filming this wedding. It was fun, elegant and touching. The ceremony and reception was held at the beautiful Four Seasons Hotel in Miami. The Wedding Officiant was Father Joaquin Perez who entertaining and spiritual. The Wedding Planner of the event was Israel Sands who did and awesome job in the planning the event. The Spanish Guitarist playing during the ceremony and cocktail hour was Carlos Abanto and the band who really entertained the guests at the reception was Private Stock Band. I had a great time working with Photographer Amy Hill who photographed the wedding.

On January 30 and 31, 2010 I filmed Johanna and Joe's Awesome Two Day Wedding Celebration. It was a fun filled weekend from start to finish. There was so much going on that I started filming the Groom getting ready in Manhattan then took a taxi to Brooklyn to film the bride getting ready and then off to Manhattan for the ceremony then off to Times Square. Just returned from Orlando, Florida after spending 4 days at the Wedding and Event Expo. WEVA stands for Wedding and Events Videographers Association. It is an international association of wedding videographers and industry leaders. It was a pleasure meeting up with many of my peers in the Wedding and Event Industry. There were Videographers and Filmmakers from around the world. The Expo inspired Videographers with successful ideas, concepts and business strategies. This was my third expo and I was really excited to learn so many techniques and concepts from World reknown industry leaders aswell as meeting up with my peers. After attending this Expo I was energized with alot of ideas and I am proud that I have been a WEVA member for the last 7 years. Since moving to South Florida I wanted to capture some of the beauty here. My first film I shot in Florida was with the Canon 5D Mark II. This was a 2 hour yacht cruise I took in Florida on the Intracoastal waterway with Delray Yacht Cruises. It was a beautiful and relaxing experience and highly recommend it when visiting Florida.

Adventures in Moving

Talking about adventures in Moving. I moved my family to Boca Raton, Florida last week. I must say it was a big adventure in driving a Uhaul moving truck from NYC to Boca Raton, Florida.. The trip was about 1230 miles and a total of 21 hours of driving with a few pit stops on the way one of them being at the Waffle House in North Carolina and a stop in beautiful Savannah, Georgia. .
I plan to continue working in the NYC area flying between Florida and NYC when necessary but want to expand my business in South Florida. Lately I have been digitizing my father's 16mm film collection. It's a task I must complete and it is something that I want people to see and experience. My father Yaroslav Kulynych captured numerous historical Ukrainain events from the 1950s up to 2007. It has been a difficult task to convert these films because many of the films have not been in been in the greatest condition but then I found it was interesting to see Ukrainian life from the 1950s to the 1980s on film.

My father has been a big influence to me in with filming and documenting events. I want to digitize and preserve his films for others to see.

Last week I was asked to film a video of a Ukrainian Dance Ensemble. They needed a video of their performances in order to enter a dance competition in England. Well my schedule was pretty hectic because I had to record a wedding in Central Park the day before and the next day an Opera performance and then a Sweet 16 party. I had to have their demo ready within days because their video had to be submitted to London by November 1, 2008. With the help of the Artistic Director Hryhoriy Momot of the Barvinok Dance ensemble we had a demo ready in no time. Here is a clip of some beautiful Ukrainain Folk dancing. This dance is called "Pryvit" or the Welcome dance.

Well it's been a while since I posted. For the last three months I have been been busy freelancing for other video production companies and unfortunately have not had the time to post any of my work. This is a video that I shot and edited for Premiere Entertainment back in the beginning of September but I wanted to share this highlight video that I captured and edited. Simply Awesome Summer

It's been a very busy summer for me. I traveled to numerous locations throughout the country in the last few months from California to Florida to Virginia to Connecticut. I have been busy working on my own and also as a freelance cameraman for numerous companies capturing numerous weddings from African to Indian, from rich to poor and even captured an awesome gay wedding in Atlantic City. It's been a great experience for me because I have worked with numerous talented professionals and at the same time worked with couples from all walks of life. I Just Love what I do.

I just finished editing Olia and Yuri's wedding from June 21, 2008 which took place in my hometown of Yonkers, New York. I really had a good time at this wedding because there were alot of people I knew at this wedding and made it a pleasure to film. I had to complete this wedding quickly because Olia and Yuri went to Ukraine on their honeymoon and wanted to show their video to family and friends there. Here is Olia's Bridal Prep video clip. Last week I Captured Kim and Kevin's Wedding in beautiful upstate New York. It was a real fun family wedding. Kim and Kevin's Ceremony was at Sacred Heart Church in Monroe, New York and their wedding reception was at Anthony's Pier 9 Catering in New Windsor, New York. Their awesome DJ was David Quinn from Premiere Entertainment. I just finished editing this wedding and wanted to share their highlight video.

They were a fun loving couple and surely loved the excitement of Times Square.

Back from California

I came back from my California trip really energized with alot of ideas and knowledge.
My first stop of my California visit was with Laura and Steve Moses of Vantage Point Productions in San Dimas, California. I spent some time in their studio and they showed me some of their fabulous work. They were excellent hosts and I even got to see a real live Road Runner in their back yard. Afterwards for two days I was training with Jeff and Andee Wright from Blue Skies Cinema. They were awesome trainers and had an opportunity to work with a Model Bride in beautiful Laguna Beach. In the near future I'll post the video I took at the beach. I honestly thought my trip to California was a success.

Well it's been a while since I have posted on my blog but I have a some news that I wanted to share. I have been really busy lately capturing weddings, birthday parties, concerts and freelancing my services to other companies. On top of it I have been updating my LK Cinematic Video Website. I am so excited to say that I will be traveling next week to Corona, California for training with Jeff Wright from Blue Skies Cinema for a few days and prior to his traning I am planning make a quick stop to see my favorite California Videographer Duo Steve and Laura Moses from Vantage Point Productions.

On Saturday I Photographed a Family Reunion very close by to my home in Staten Island. I really enjoyed working with this fun, dynamic and energetic family. Family members from all over the U.S flew to attend this Family Reunion. Once I was done taking pictures a few hours later I delivered photo CDs for the family to share.

I checked my email early this morining and got this message.

Hi Lou,

Just a note to thank you for the beautiful job you did with our family reunion.You were very pleasant, unobtrusive, creative and attentive to the activities during this gathering.
We just loved the pictures you took. From the moment you walked in the door you captured many moments which we would want to remember.We also appreciated that you took several shots just in case one did not come out and we could choose from several.When Debbie's friend walked in late it and you had already left but saw her come in, without being asked it was nice of you to come back and ask if we would like a picture of her.

After having a busy week in capturing four weddings in New York City, I had one more very special wedding to attend to. With about 4 hours of sleep and a few body aches from the previous weddings, I was ready to embark on a very important journey. That journey was to take me to Oklahoma to observe the most prominent Wedding and Event Videographers in the World - Trisha and Mark Von Lanken. Well this is not my fisrt trip to Oklahoma. Last year I went to Trisha and Mark’s Wedding Videographer workshop and it was awesomwe!

As a New Yorker I am always on the run trying to get as much done NOW and with that in mind I was really excited about this trip. As I left Newark Airport on Saturday September 8, 2007 at 6:00AM I got to Tulsa at 10:00AM where Mark Von Lanken greeted me and took me to their home. Right away I greeted by Trisha and their children. I observed how the Von Lankens as a tag team were getting prepared for the wedding of Kody and Matt in Stillwater, Oklahoma. (Stillwater is the home town of Oklahoma State University and they are totally Ga-ga over their football).
That morning I observed as Trisha and Mark were finishing up the last touches of a Video Presentation and preparation of the Same Day Edit of Kody and Matt’s wedding.

As we drove to Stillwater both Trisha and Mark went over the wedding day with me and I was to be the third camera getting various shots. What I really enjoyed while driving with them is this feeling of calm and positive energy flowing from both of them. We all said a prayer prior to the start of the wedding and finally arrived to Stillwater.
Stillwater kind of reminded me of Upstate New York where there is a lot of beautiful country. As we got to Stillwater it was just pouring rain outside and the weather just looked miserable. Right before getting to the Reception the Von Lanken’s treated me to Arby’s where right off the bat I noticed that all the staff and customers were wearing Orange the team colors of Oklahoma State University football team and I was saw this funky looking picture of a big headed cowboy called “Pistol Pete” The team’s mascot.

After our meal we arrived to the catering hall there was big a tent set up where the ceremony was to take place. In the mean time the Von Lankens and myself started to unpack their van and set up. Trisha occupied a separate room in preparation of the Same Day Wedding Edit. Once we got set up I noticed that the bride and groom arrived (even though they did not see each other) and all of a sudden the weather just instantaneously changed to beautiful blue skies and sunshine.
Prior to the ceremony Mark and Trisha were capturing a lot of their magical creative shots and got the bridal and groom preparations. The ceremony was really beautiful and I observed how both Trisha and Mark were positioned throughout the ceremony. Right after the ceremony Trisha right away went to work on the Same Day Edit while Mark and I were capturing footage right through to the reception. At the reception their were over 200 guests and boy was it different then what I am use to in NYC. People generally looked very relaxed and I got to see real cowboys dressed up in their Stetson Hats, belt buckles and the cowboy boots. When the Video Presentation was screened with the couple’s same day Wedding edit I for the first time witnessed the reactions of the bride and groom and I was truly amazed on how beautifully it was done.

All throughout the wedding I noticed how focused and dedicated both Trisha and Mark are in their work. I am very happy I had the experience of learning and observing both Trisha and Mark working. I am thankful for them sharing their knowledge with me and their true kindness and hospitality.

Back from Cancun Vacation

Last week my family and I took a week long vacation to Cancun, Mexico. My sister-in-law and my wife plannned this vaction. I admit that I was n't to thrilled at first in going but once there I was really impressed with Cancun. Arriving there in the evening Cancun looked like Las Vegas with so much energy. The Night life just looked awesome.

The weather was 85 degrees everyday with lots of sunshine.

It's a great destination for couples who are on their honeymoon. There is so much to do. You can enjoy the beautiful blue beaches during the day and have awesome fun at the Clubs at night. You won't be bored because there is so much to do: You can golf, scuba dive, go fishing, visit the Mayan ruins and do so many other things.

While there we stayed at the Laguna Suites Hotel. It is a small boutique type of hotel. The service from the staff at the Laguna was just superb and the restaurant had delicious meals.

I highly recommend Cancun to couples who are planning a getaway trip or their honeymoon.

Pat's Surprise 60th Birthday

On February 11, 2007 I assisted one of my videographer colleagues Tim Smith from Tim Allen Smith Studios. Tim's mother Pat was celebrating her 60th birthday and Tim asked for my assistance in Video taking, Picture taking and Projecting a Photo History he produced for his mom's birthday. With over 70 guests at Pat's birthday, the party took place at the Italian Sun Restaurant in Stewartville, NJ. The party was a big surprise for Pat with the closest of family and friends gathered at the party. I really enjoyed the party and service at the Italian Sun Restaurant was really immaculate. Pat being an avid Scrap booker really impressed me by knowing all of her guests birth dates. I was really happy to being a part of filming and photographing the party.

Larissa's 50th Birthday Party

I just finished editing Larissa' birthday party that took place on January 14, 2007. Her party took place at my favorite Ukrainian restaurant in Brooklyn. Everything was simply beautiful. Larissa's guests had a great time and Larissa had a surprise visit by Ukrainian Carolers. Her band was Halychany Ukrainian band and later Lilya Ostapenko sang at her party.

Ukrainian Wedding in NYC

I just finished editing a remarkable Ukrainian Traditional Wedding for Natalka and Taras. The wedding took place on May 28, 2006 in New York City. The Wedding Ceremony took place at St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church in New York City (a beautiful Byzantine Church located at East 7th St. between 2nd and 3rd Ave). Afterwards their Reception took place at the Ukraina Restaurant and Cafe in Brooklyn, NY

I recommend to visit St. George's Church especially on a Sunday morning and experience the beauty of that church.
